Major Donation Supports New Geo-Spatial Technologies Laboratory
In early 2018, the department received a $100,000 donation from a Social Sciences graduate to create a new computer laboratory.
Cal Poly is in the process of planning a new technology building in the space between the English and Agriculture buildings. With this donation, the department has secured a space for a computer laboratory in the new building that will incorporate state-of-the-art hardware and software in support of the anthropology and geography and sociology programs.
The lab will be called the College of Liberal Arts Geo-Spatial Technologies Laboratory and will support courses in GIS, remote sensing, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and research methods. The new lab bolsters the department’s on-going efforts to train students in leading-edge technologies and to provide them with marketable research and job skills.
The new building and lab are expected to be completed in 2021.
